Can someone look at my resume?
Asked by Mudassar R
I have been applying for entry level jobs for over a year now but still have not even recieved a call for an interview. I was wondering if its a problem with my resume. So I was wondering if any of you ladies and gents would be kind enough to take look at it and let me know if I should change my resume. Currently I am going to apply for a HR-Assistant entry level job. If you guys could look over this and let me know I would greatly apperciate it. One thing I do ask is if you dont have anything good or constructive to say please dont make fun of it or anything. Other than that I appericate any help. I think you can find resume templates in job hunting self-help books, many of them I am sure can be found in the public library. I am certainly not an expert but I have changed jobs more than a few times over the years, and have been in the position to hire many times. First, I am presuming the format showing here is not as you would give it out. As it shows, it really needs better formatting. Second, the major purpose of the resume is to provide the person doing the interview with an aid to get to know about you. So the objective of the resume is to give a quick summary of the key aspects of you the person. You are more than a simple list of jobs and the tasks you did on each. I think you are giving far too much detail on the jobs you have had and some of it is clearly unnecessary. It can be assumed you "complied with airport policies on safety and securities" - doesn't everybody? Regarding education. Strengthen this section. You have completed high school - where? You indicate you have been enrolled at Strayer since 2007. full time? How would this impact your availability for employment? If you are doing well, you might want to show your GPA but if you are an average or below average student, don't put it on there. Do you have any special interests? Sports fan? Hobbies? (I once indicated I was a Boston Celtics fan on a resume and was being interviewed by a guy that watched Larry Bird play in college. The interview was fun and I got the job.) How about any volunteer work, which shows you are engaged in the community? Companies like employees with an ability to see beyond themselves. Again, in summary; show more about who Mudassar Rehman is as a person. These people have to work next to you so they want to know what kind of person you are. I hope this is of some value. Best of luck! Dave
