Why are employers ignorning my resume?
Asked by ModelFlyerChick
Well, this isn't an actual job but is an example of what I'm constantly running into. I have the experience and qualifications but not the BS degree employers want even if they say they will consider Associates also.
-- The typical job--
Title:CAD Drafter
Requirements: Bachelors + 5 yrs experience, expert AutoCAD knowledge, expert PC knowledge
Will consider Associates for:
Exceptional experience + talent in the field
Exceed all other requirements

I was formerly an Admin Asst + company "computer geek". Prior to that I was an AutoCAD Drafter, primarily in the architectural industry. I'm trying to return to drafting because I enjoy it. I REALLY don't want another secretarial type position. To me, this type of work is extremely boring, mundane, uncreative, and presents NO mental challenge of any sort. The only challenge I had in my former admin role was presented on the "computer geek" side which I did like because of the challenge and also because I like tinkering with computers.
Are employers looking at it and automatically labeling me as "secretary" because of my previous role? Or is there anything wrong with my resume? Any suggestions to improve it?
Texasirish...When I made my comment about secretarial work being boring I was speaking from my own experience from the admin position I held for nearly 4 years. The secretarial side of the job was rather boring, no mental stimulation. I'm one of these people with an inquistive nature...always curious and learning. If I can't be learning something I get bored rather easily.

It looks like your way over qualified! They probably think they can't afford you. I would call them...so you can call attention to your resume.
I'm sure they get a lot of them. Thanks for referring to my work as boring. good luck!
