Career Questions and Answers
what careers involve taking care of animals?
Asked by Kimberly
i would love a career that involves taking care of animals, but not just dogs and cats. i'd love to take care of exotic animals like tigers or something. I don't want to be a vet though. I don't think i'd be able to perform surgery on an animal or put an animal down. Any ideas? thanks sooo much.
oh by the way i'm a sophmore in highschool so i'm just looking for some ideas.

Sounds like you need some experience working at a zoo. That's really the only place you're going to encounter exotic animals...
Unless you want to travel. Then you could look into conservation, either for a national park or overseas.
If you're going to look into work at a zoo, try calling one local to you and see if someone is willing to talk to you about working there. Most people are happy to sit down with someone who's interested in work, and talk about how to get a job, and what their work is like.
You can also try working a few hours as a volunteer at a local animal shelter. You won't get the exotic animals, but it's good experience and you'll meet some people who can help you make a career choice.

Like the other ppl said, you can find jobs in the many different fields of biology to work with animals. But to find other jobs you can look for different groups and organizations around you. There r some government funded group that offer internships and different classes for those type of jobs. careers with exotic animals are dangerous though and can be very competitive.
check out some of these site too (they may help).
