How can I get hired as a Pharmacy Tech?
Asked by She glows
How can I get hired as a pharmacy tech while I am still in college? Do you have to be licensed?
I'll be starting my sophomore year this fall and beginning pre-pharm classes.

In my state, you don't need a license to get hired. New techs are hired all the time at my work (drugstore!) with no experience and no license.
If you are going into pre-pharm classes, see if you can get an intern position at a pharmacy near your school (talk to your school advisor or one of your professors for ideas). The place that you intern at will help you get a license and most of the time you get paid training. Interns are usually treated better than regular techs (because they will one day be pharmacists) and get tons of perks as well. Interning is also excellent for networking purposes.

Generally you need to have a license in order to be hired as a pharmacy tech. Maybe there are interning opportunities where you can work with someone working as a pharmacy tech? Check with your school/department about it.

As long as you have a high school diploma, you can become licensed in most states. Some states do not even require a license to become a pharm tech. Go to your state's board of pharmacy's website for more information.
