How serious are child labor laws?
Asked by thedude559
My friend is 17 and works at KFC and occasionally works 12-15 hours which is more than the Michigan state limit of 10 hours a day for minors. How serious is this? My friend says it is no big deal, but i was just wondering if the child labor laws are enforced. Yes there are the standard breaks and lunches every few hours. But it is kind of encouraged to not take them.

If they were reported the company could get in a decent amount of trouble. Your friend wouldn't get anything out of it though. Just to ask does the 12-15 hours include breaks? I have worked places where the minors get TONS of breaks.

A:
If someone reports that they're being violated, yes, they're taken seriously. The KFC he works for could face some big fines if they're caught.
