how does one get a job as a bank teller without prior experience?
Asked by sean_jo_5705
I have five years of actual work experience, but none in that field. I' am a security guard making eleven dollars an hour and would like to know how to make a little more cash. What do they look for in a new teller?

I would be very interested to know what the answer to this will be. I have often thought that the qualifications for this job would be nothing more than the ability to be nice to people, and to just be able to handle each transaction in a very thorough way as not to make any mistakes.
I have some friends who got MBA's who have this job today. So apparently an MBA doesn't hurt your chances in getting this job.

Bank tellers are pretty entry level and typically paid an hourly wage. Honestly, you probably won't make much more that you are now. Tellers are great banking positions to start in that can lead to other opportunities in banking and finance industry.
However, the fact that you worked security means you more than likely will pass a background check and drug test. Also, your experience required a certain level of trust and responsiblity which banks might see as an asset in a potential candidate for a teller position.
My advice, go for it and apply to banks that you would like to work for and most have in-house training programs you probably will have to go through.
Best of luck!
