How do I approach my boss about this?

Ok, I currently work on a farm for my friends grandpa, they usually pay me pretty decent, I work from 2:30-6:00 pm, 7days a week and they usually give me 100-150 dollars, well two weekends ago one of the bosses went up north with his wife and I was asked to fill in the morning and my regular afternoon while they were gone, and on my payday I was only handed $100!!!! I am very angry, and I try doing stuff all the time if we are not milking but my bro that also works there claims that they have asked him why im "jackin off (not doing work)", and then they yell at me when I dont do somethin cuz I was busy doing something else, and they have another guy that usually comes in the winter and I know they like him wayy more than me, but hes just a lazy dickhead who likes to drive the tractor and wont even milk, I do all kinds of work, i chopped for these guys with a freakin hacksaw for 3hrs the other day. How do i approach them about what Im getting paid and about doing other work and just how to approach them about anything

Hey, get ready to get another job. If you want to ask the regular boss what your pay is per hour, that would clarify things. If you are not doing satisfactory work, then why do they hire you? It's an employers world nowadays. At 3.5 hrs/ day and 7 days a week, you are working a total of 24.5 hrs. At $150/ wk. that is $6.12/ hr. At $100/wk., that is $4.08/hr. I see your problem with the difference.

Just say, (very politely) that you don't think you've been paid fairly for the amount of work you're doing. Tell them you appreciate this great opportunity, and you enjoy your regular wages, but if you're going to be working more then you should be paid more. Politeness and respect is key. Snobbiness or disrespect will get you nowhere. Hope this helps!

Speak to them in a calm tone and tell them that you were doing more work such as ..... and working longer hours and hence, you should be given more pay. If they refuse to pay more, quit.

How old are you? In this country, if you have a job, they have to pay you whatever the minimum wage is per hour. If they are paying you cash, instead of a regular "paycheck" you may have problems. #1 that's illegal. No having said all that, sounds likie your bosses have the idea that you aren't really working. That does not mean you aren't working, but that is their reality for whatever reason- even if they are the ones not paying attention to everything you do. You have some choices: 1) Quit 2) Suck it up and be glad you have a job for any price 3) Each day make a list of every item you complete and how long the job took. Give it to your boss every day. Chances are the boss will be irritated about this at first, but maybe it will open their eyes to your worth and help you get ahead. 4) call the local labor board and tell them that these people are paying you under the table and get them in trouble. This option is only recommended if you want to lose your job as the labor board will probably make them close up or at the very least start following real employment law and pay practices. Chances are, the boss will hate this and fire everyone to avoid haveing to pay any payroll taxes. Also, it may be hard to find another job if anyone finds out that you blew the whistle.

Oh man, Ive been there. The first answer is right, your going to have to tell them. But you need to realize a couple things first. That other guy that's lazy but they don't care, your going to have to forget about him, as far as this thought goes. They don't care, so you caring about that only adds to the complications. You do need to tell them what your doing for them, sometimes they just don't see it. But you also need to realize that people like your boss seem to just like certain people, and over look others. Most of the times they overlook the good ones. Sometimes when you point it out, it pays off, sometimes it don't. You need to ask yourself, is it worth telling them, and maybe making it better, or maybe loosing your job, or is it better to just stand down and see if it gets better. You really need to think about this one
