It depends on the definition as set forth by the individual facility. Some places consider you "full time" at 30 hours, or 32 hours, or 40 hours. Some do not consider you full time unless you are 40 hours, but you still get full benefits as if you were a full time employee as long as you work a minimum of 20 hours (this is how my job is). Hours and shifts vary, but two common patterns for a hospital are either 8 hour shifts or 12 hour shifts. Usually day shift starts around 7am, goes til 3:30, evening shift is 3:00 to 11:30, night shift from 11:00pm to 7:00am. 12 hour shifts are almost always 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am. If you do 12 hours you will only work 2-3 days per week and if weekends are required you usually only need to work every third weekend. When you work 8 hour shifts you may be required to work every-other weekend. Holidays are usually rotating, so you may have your choice of which ones you work during the year, or they may just assign them by seniority, etc. Holidays of course are paid overtime, at least time and a half, but often double or sometimes triple time. If you work in a clinic or some other facility that has limited hours of operation, you might have a more regular, M-F, 8-4:30 kind of job. But those positions are limited in number in many areas. If you work home care, you might be able to choose your own schedule entirely, depending on the availability of jobs and needs in your area.

If you're part time you may have 2-3 shifts every rotation. A full time nurse would work more shifts in a week.

Full time is 40 hours anything under that is part time. The hours and shifts are different for each employer.
