How to become a certified medical lab technician?
Asked by math geek
I am wanting to get a job as a certified medical lab technician. I have a BS in chemistry and was wondering if anyone who is a lab technician (or in the know), could tell me where to go from here? How do I get certification in a particular state? What is actually involved in becoming certified, i.e. is it just taking and passing a test? 1 day ago - 3 days left to answer.

With a BS in Chem you are going to have to have 3 years lab experience before you can take the ASCP board exam. My suggestion would be to you is to find yourself a job in a large hospital lab. They are going to put you in 1 maybe 2 departments. Any smaller hospital is going to need someone that is crossed trained for multiple departments are you are going to have a hard time getting hired. You will only be able to take the chemistry technologist or specialist exam. check out www.ASCP.org
10 yrs lab experience
