A few years ago when I still worked in retail a coworker of mine (who'd worked retail for 15 years) up and quit. I kept in touch with her and she honestly didn't have a back up plan. After a few weeks she started hinting at maybe going back to school at a local community college. She did and has been taking more and more classes for the past few years-and she's very happy with her decision. She's going into nursing. One downside is of course she's not working so everything is coming out of her husband's income. The upside is she's happier than she's been in years, feels challenged and is looking forward to a new and better paying career. Check out some colleges, maybe even your local community college-get in to see one of their counselors so you can discuss if what they have to offer is what you are looking for. If not, at least you'll know and they would be able to point you in another direction. Employment agencies also have counselors that can hook you up with local resources (training, financial, career /class guidance).
