before someone becomes a construction superintendent, were they a crafts person before ?

yes. my brother inlaw actually was a carpenter for 20years or so. he was able to become a super of a project here in vancouver. I guess if you know your stuff and paid your dues in the construction field then you've got a great chance. However, you have to be well rounded in everything that is trades. He operated cranes for high rises and poured concrete. So, he's got some knowledge under his belt.
