Career Questions and Answers

Chris
How can I gain experience for a career with no work experience?
Asked by Chris
I graduated from college two months and have been struggling to find a job. Some were promising but they didn't go past the interview. I fear its because of my limited work experience. I can convince them that my education was "work" in that I did real world tasks for cities, but they'll always want to see actual work experience. However, if I can't find a job, how can I get that experience? Where can I go that will give me that experience?

Best Answer:
Offer to start at a lower position for the company. Ask them to give you a chance to prove yourself. Also, you can offer to intern for them to prove yourself also. Remember, if you have no experience you will have to suffer a little by working for less money than you expected and possibly working at a lower position that you hoped for.

Volunteer work is the best option. Try volunteering for a long time. Some companies don't find relevance in just volunteering for a couple of months. Try volunteering part-time while searching for a job and you'll find something : )
