I've always seen the security guards that watch over buildings at night, either patrolling the buildings or sitting in the security room. how do I get a job like that? Do I need any sort of forma education? What's the typical job salary?

All you need is a class D security officer state license and a class G if you want to be an armed guard. Depending on the state in which you live and depending onthe post you are assigned to that will determine your hourly pay but it typically ranges between $9-13 sometimes more.
