I have 5 years IT experience and a Top Secret/SCI clearance. How do i continue in the IT field?
Asked by Cody
I have spent 5 years as an IT in the Navy and mostly did help desk and sys admin. I was wondering what is going to be the easiest way to continue in the IT field. I am looking into getting my certifications but need a starting point. Any help is greatly appreciated. I am in Ventura County CA if that helps any. Thanks for the help!

Get your microsoft certification and cisco certification as a minimum. You should have no problem finding a good position, look into working for the county in which you live - in their IT shop. Next, you can just go to a headhunter. IT people are still in demand in this job market. I'm a retired vp of a technology company. O, yes, and thank you so much for your service to our country.

I got my MCSE and it paid off pretty good, but it is a hard certification to get. I would start off with something like A+ and get to work as a computer Tech then work your way up as sys admin. You can in the mean time study for a MCSE or CCNE or something. Check out GTSS, it has planned its certificate courses in such a way that it makes IT aspirants capable in all respect to meet industry requirements – http://www.gtssminds.com/what-we-do/it-training.htm
