Do you really need to have a good physique for a job as a security guard?
Asked by Ryan P
I'm talking about being a security guard at a mall, airport, office building, condo or apartment building. I'm not a muscular person. I am relatively skinny but I'm still physically healthy and I can lift 50 kg, maybe even more.

There are no special physical requirements for most security guard positions. Most security guards are supposed to "observe and report" and not take any type of direct action. This means that if you see something like a fight happening, your job is to call the cops and not jump into the middle of it. Lots of retired people and others who are not in the best of shape often work as security guards.
There are some exceptions; security guards who work as bouncers at clubs or perform crowd control at concerts may be expected to take hands-on action. For this, you had better be in good shape and/or be an experienced brawler yourself.
There are also certain other types of specialized security positions that would require you to be in excellent shape, but most of these prefer to hire ex-military or law enforcement types anyway.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a security guard that wasn't out of shape...
