I knew a guy that showed up for a weld test in shorts and flip flops!! Not the best way to convince them you are an experienced welder. You can look sharp in a pair of jeans or Carharts, with a good T-shirt and a long sleeve denim shirt over. This is "typical welder wear". You don't want to come in looking "prissy" like you are not a hard worker and will be afraid to get dirty. Your personality and welding knowledge at the interview and performance on the weld test will be way more important than what you wear.
Hired welders for years.

Check out your local Public Library - they have LOTS of great books on this subject. (Sometimes they even have free classes on job searching.)

I'd always go smart, or smart casual. You cant go wrong with smart-casual (trousers, shirt, either with a tie or unbuttoned with no tie).
I doubt they'd really want you to turn up in overalls and a welding mask, even if thats how you will be dressed if you get the job

Dress for welding like they say, but look cleaned up and professional. Make sure your hair is nice and look like you belong on the cover of a welding magazine.

Tough one.
I'd say, wear jeans, but wear a professional-looking button-up shirt, or at least a nice polo shirt. You know, something that looks decent, but you can afford to get a little dirty. Also if you have welding leathers or a welding overshirt, bring that in addition to your gloves and helmet.
Good luck.

A good clean pair of denim pants and shirt would be good. Steel toed shoes and safety glasses even better (don't forget the welding gear). Most of all be calm be sure of yourself and answer the questions with confidence. Present that you know what you are doing! If you don't know the answer to a question say so, don't guess and make yourself look bad. More than anything the confidence is what will impress. You have to sell yourself! Tell them what you know. That is for the interview. The welding part don't electrocute, burn, flash, or cut yourself it would look really bad (just kidding). Most of all good luck!
