Asked by Austin
i am a teenager and have tried a countless amount of times to find a great part time job. i have filled out applications, called about them, showed up and asked, talked to the manager, and the whole nine yards! is there anything else i can do to make myself look better then the rest? and put myself over the unemployed edge?

Damn bro, I did the same thing. It was frustrating for me to find a job. Well, I recommend u ask ur parents or family members to see if they know anyone that works in stores ( target, walmart, subway, mcdonalds etc.) that way you'll might have a better chance to be hired.
This happened to my brother and he got the job in like a week.

What happened when you made the follow up calls? What did the manager say? What happened when you showed up at the store and talked to the manager? What was the conversation? Tell me in detail in additional details and I may give you further tips. Also what does little work experience mean? 1 month of experience? Right now it's hard to find any openings, and you're best bet is to get a referal because those applications get more consideration because the manager can learn about you a lot quicker since most of the time they don't bother with calling references. I've had lots of past work experience, but I've only gotten about 2-3 call backs for an itnerview, which I blew. You're best bet right now is to keep sending in applications, along with a resume and COVER LETTER. When you apply, make sure to call beforehand, ask if they're hiring first, and if they are, find a time when the manager is WORKING so you can hand in the application directly to him/her and make a good first impression. Follow up calls are important.

It is very difficult. continue to do what you are doing, internet and job sites like Indeed.com, Snagajob.com, Monster.com, are all great sites to visit and search for jobs. To make your self look better always dress professionally, be polite during interviews, and always behave professionally. Also, get some really good references if possible. A lot of grocery stores and fast food businesses hire young people, you may want to apply at those places, and try smaller businesses that are really desperate for good help. I have been able to get a few jobs with some smaller lesser know businesses, that don't have as many people applying for positions with them as a bigger business like Wal Mart would. Some good qualities to have when looking for a job is to be positive, confident, reliable, hard working, and responsible. It is always a good idea to thank your potential employer for the opportunity they are giving you too, if you get an interview. Good Luck, hope you find a nice job :).
