To become a Nurse Practitioner, you first need to become an RN, either through an Assoc. Degree program or a BSN program. To get into either one of these RN programs most will require you hold a CNA certificate / license prior to starting.
Maybe you meant a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) instead of a Nurse Practitioner (NP)? An LPN is a 12 month program at a vocational or technical college. And many of those programs also require you hold your CNA before starting.
RN, BSN

A nurse practitioner has a bachelor's degree in nursing plus a master's degree. It is the master's degree that defines the nurse practitioner.
A CNA is a certified nursing assistant. I think this training can be completed in a couple of weeks vs six years.
You do not have to take any CNA classes to become a nurse practitioner.

Not if you don't want to. To become a a nurse practitioner you would have to get a Bachelors degree in nursing, then a masters and you go to NP school. Your grades must be AMAZING throughout all these years of schooling. I became a CNA because I want to work in the field while going through school to become an RN, but not everyone has to do that.
