What do jobs do with your social security number when you have to put it down when filling out a appreciation?
Asked by keld2682
I think that when you working or deal with cash they do credit check by looking at your social security number to see if you have bad credit but do some jobs not concern about your credit do they use your social security number for a background check and check your employment history. What else can they do with your social security numbers.

Best Answer:
They have to pay FICA tax to the government and that goes towards your account so when you're old you can collect Social Security. They also have to record the wages paid to the person who has that social security number on the W-2 form you'll get at the end of the year to file your taxes.

They need your social security number to be able to employ you. When they pay taxes towards your social security.... guess how they assign that money to your file? By using your Social Security Number. The paperwork you fill out like the I-9 and W-4 form requires your social security number. One is to proof that you are allowed to work in the U.S. and the other to assign the social security taxes withheld from your check and the part your employer pays to your social security account. Background checks and credit checks need special approval by you. Just having your social security number does not give an employer access to your credit file and criminal history, etc. For that they need your signature and a written letter that let's them do so with your permission.

It is legal proof of your legality to be hired in the USA. They also sometimes run credit checks to see what kind of person you are. This is usually done for better paying jobs, not something like McDonalds or Burger King.
