i have been working as a caregiver for an elderly woman for 6 months i have not had a day off original oral agreement was one day off a week ((id still be there over night)) 90 yr old with dementia((sun-downers)) 24 hr constant care primary respite care home health comes twice a week to give her a shower they provide a room, claiming theyre providing the entire house ((rental dollar wise)) justification for lack of cash payment i became aware of this when i tried to rent out the extra room in the house for cash to increase my weekly income i was asked how much money they would get a month from renter i put my foot down about the time off physically/mentally exhausted and was met with retaliation my wages total verses hours worked, im not making min. wage what are the legal steps that i need to take to rectify my situation

go to your state labor and industries. first all barter (trade for services) is taxable by the IRS second they must state a dollar value based on the industry and pay the state tax ans unimployment insurance.

Contact your local labor board. If you wan to shame your employer, go to Employee Justice Report (dot) com and file a report, which will be seen on the web!
