My boyfriend is a sub-contractor/carpenter. He only has a HS diploma, so you don't really need more school. Why not ask the instructor of your course how to get an apprenticeship? He/she might have a friend or know someone who could take you on and teach you the ropes. That is how my boyfriend got his first real job. His high school construction teacher's son was a sub-contractor and needed someone to help him. My boyfriend learned A LOT from him. At that time, he was making $10/hr and averaging about 50 hours of work a week.
