CCNA and Network Jobs?
Asked by mark28110
I currently run my own company but the economy has put a damper on revenue. If things don't improve soon, I will have to fold and find a job. I have a BS in Electrical Engineering Technology degree and about fifteen years in wireless networking and mobile computing(barcode, RFID) in warehousing, manufacturing and distribution. I have done hundreds of wireless site surveys, installations and system designs as well as recommending and implementing warehouse management systems for companies. I am currently studying for a CCNA certification. I am going to give my company one year to provide me with a living. If things don't improve I will have a CCNA by then and go after a networking job and work for someone else. My question is with my degree, experience and certification, will I be able to get a job in networking? Not just any job, but a good job?

The Holy Grail for IT employment is a 4 year degree, some industry certs and experience. If you have all three of those you should be in good shape and it sounds like you do. There are many experienced IT people on the street right now just like folks in other sectors. What the job prospects will be like in 12 months is hard to predict. Long term we don't see it going away. Cloud Computing, if that becomes the next big area, will only bring more emphasis on network bandwidth requirements and should mean good jobs for network people.
