can my husbands felony stop me from being a social worker?
Asked by andrequa2
I am in my 2nd year of college to be a social worker. My boyfriend of 4 years has a felony conviction, we are planning to get married in a few months. Can his felony charge be held against me and stop me from being a social worker?

Best Answer:
...better not be! You are your own person.
Now, if you were trying to get a job with the CIA, etc., you'd be sunk.

I don't think so? but.. heck it's hard to tell these days.

A:
No I don't believe so. If a background check is performed, it will be on your background not his.

I agree with everyone else. I doubt that it would be a problem. When you apply for a job, the checks done would be on your past and not his. Not sure how old you are but could you do a loooong engagement. I am sure that you love him and everyone makes mistakes but these days it is hard to get a job WITHOUT a felony. With one, you might have to support him for a long time to come.

In a perfect world, no. However you will be unable to legally be a foster parent or be a guardian ad litem.

You might also check with your professors and guidance councilors.

Depends what type a social work you plan on.......if you go into Family services and your Husband is a convicted sexual predator......it may make a difference.......you realize that your boyfriends felony convection will have a huge negative impact on his life and yours........you sure your want to tie your star to his. Think about it.... There are thousand and thousands of talented, experience people on the street due to the economy…the competition for any job is extreme. …people will do anything for much less just to feed their kids……..I don’t expect it to get any better before 2012……these people are all clean........
