Working at a self storage facility?
Asked by emily
I recently starting working at a self storage facility as the manager (no previous experience). Had one month training at another store before i came to the one i am at now. I am really nervous because i still do not know all of the paperwork and rules/laws. I am the type of person who takes awhile to understand something. In a way,i feel as if there is so much to learn and it will take me forever to do so (learn everything). I am grateful to atleast have a job right now,but at the same time i am not sure that i will like it. Have found myself coming home stressed the past few days due to the job. In a way i want to quit, but my husband keeps telling me that we need the paycheck. Sometimes i feel it is not worth it,cause i will never learn or understand everything about the job. Any suggestions?

Hi Emily, I've got 2 self storage facilities in Scotland, one in Glasgow and the other in Dundee. It does take a while to learn the systems and procedures in any new job. We partner new staff with an experienced manager to help them learn. You mentioned that you worked in another facility for a month - I'm sure they'd be willing to help you to settle in. There's also a great self storage forum at http://www.selfstoragetalk.com/ The members of this forum are really friendly and will welcome you. They can also offer lots of advice and help. Good luck, http://www.kangarooselfstorage.co.uk

Don't be so hard on yourself. Of course you'll understand it. You're making it out to be more difficult than it really is. I do that a lot. Just give it some time. Before you know it, you'll be thinking it's the easiest job in the world, and wondering what you were so worked up about. :D
