How to operate a general multi-line phone at work/office?
Asked by trae
I'm starting a new job and haven't really worked in an office type setting with my own desk before. I'm sure there will be the general 4 line phone and was wondering on some general tips on how to use it... 1) How to put calls on hold? How to re-answer them? 2) How to transfer calls? How to transfer calls and inform the person who you are transferring to before hand? 3) How to put a call on hold as soon as you answer, and then answer another call, go back to the original call, etc... 4) How to check voice mail? How to set voice mail? I know all phones are different, but if you can give me some generalized tips on which buttons need to pressed to do each function, it would be great... Will I sound dumb if I ask my supervisor to give me the once over really quick on how to operate the phone? Or is it expected that most people know? Thanks so much for your help! :<)

They will show you all of that when you start. I have had to show people how to use the phone system and it takes everyone a bit to get it down. all the phones sytems are typically different. 1. hold / park, to pick up hit the line 2. tranfer button, park , call line tell who's on line, they pick up or you pick up line and hit transfer. 3. hold / park, pick up line 4. depends on system
been a receptionist at many many places as a temp.
