Career Questions and Answers

At what job level do you not have to ask your account Supervisor if it's OK to leave the office at night?
Asked by Fat Eskimo
I know as an assistant, you're required to ask your boss if they need any more help, etc before they leave for the night. But if as say, an Account Executive, is that still the case?

Best Answer:
i own the company so i don't have to ask anyone about anything but it is customary to ask the person one level above you

First, great that you are willing to pitch in and help until the work is done. It sounds as though your company's culture requires you to ask permission before you leave for the day. Consider shifting the question a bit so that you show your work ethic. Folks who have that willingness are a pleasure to work with. A way to clarify whether your help is needed in a way that demonstrates your focus and work ethic could be: "I've wrapped up all the tasks I set out to accomplish today. Is there anything I can help you with before I head out?" The more responsibility you have, the more you need to exercise your own judgement on how to deliver on your accountabilities; not so much about levels.
