How long should I work in a grocery store job to minimize damage to my resume?
Asked by Buckeye4Life
Just started a job at a grocery store that isn't exactly ideal; The management plays favorites, I make minimum wage, and there are no advancement opportunities. I would really like to quit the job ASAP, but think this may reflect poorly on my resume should an employer do a background check on me. Bottom line: How long should I stay in the position prior to leaving? 1 month? 2 months? 3 months? Money isn't an issue.

If I were in your shoes, I would leave asap. However you are not me so you have several choices.
1) you can quit asap and not include it in your resume.
2) you can continue to work until you find a job that is compatible with your needs. This will show your future employer that you found a better opportunity.
3) continue to stay in your current job and be miserable. This option is not recommended!
Keep your end goal in mind. it is important to figure out the ideal job you would like to have. If you do not know what job you want, you will simply be a drifter from one job to another.
I hope this helps!

It is my opinion that you should actively seek employment while you are employed at this point apply on line and interview on your days off. You want to leave on good terms with plenty of notice. There was a reason you applied for this position and you may be seeking the same type of position.

Obviously you are a teen. Teens have a skewed version of time, one month is a blink of an eye. Try one to two years at a job. Anything less future employers look down upon as being flighty and unstable. If you do leave after three months don't admit it on a resume or an application for sure!
