What is the average clerical pay in Phoenix?
Asked by Mom's Taxi
We are considering relocating to Phoenix and have seen quite a few job postings online. Some seem too good to be true with this economy. I am looking for customer service, admin/office type jobs. I have the experience so I am looking for above entry level. I am seeing postings of $14-$16/hour for data entry jobs, or $15/hour for receptionist in a doctor's office. Can someone just give me a ball park of the real pay. You talk to some people and they say minimum wage or no more than $10/hour.

I had a job search about 10 months ago. I'm an office manager, with a BA in accounting, and about 10 years experience. A lot of the jobs at that time were looking to hire someone for $10-$12 an hour. While the offers may have been low-ball just to see if they could get someone in, most seemed pretty serious that they were only willing to top out at $15 per hour, and that would be if you did not get health insurance with their company. I did not accept any of those offers, and I did eventually manage to find a job in my pay scale. I have no idea what Dr's or dentist office receptionists make, it's just not a field I was looking at.
Cost of living here is far less than in many major cities, so you can't really base your past salary on what you'd expect to make here. A $75K a year job in Boston (for example) is only going to pay $45K here.

I have a few friends that live in Phoenix now, one works at a garage in downtown just taking the tickets or taking the cash as people leave and he is making $11/hour. Seeing this is a pretty basic job, I am sure you could find something making $12 - 14/hour if you have the background.
I saw the prior posting I didn't think you said anything about comparing rents, everyone already knows rents are different in different state. But I do live in the boston area and I don't know too many people making 75k right now, everyone has been laid off, or their salaries being cut. Funny how people just assume people from MA are making the big bucks. LOL Good luck with you search, just so you know both my friends LOVE it in Phoenix, summers a bit hot but the other 9 months are great.
