How can I get a full-time job in a social service agency with a non-traditional Bachelor's degree?
Asked by Logophile
I double-majored in Women's Studies and Ethnic Studies and have several years of relevant, part-time work experience. Unfortunately, many job advertisements specify Education, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field. How can I convince employers that Women's Studies and Ethnic Studies are related fields?

Best Answer:
First you need to find out exactly how related the different degrees really are. Find the coursework needed to obtain a degree in the field of social work, for example, and look for specific courses or areas in which the courses or areas studies match. You will also find areas of deficiency, in which you find your degree does not provide you with sufficient knowledge in specific areas, and you can address those areas with additional training. Once you know exactly how closely your degree matches the required education for the jobs you want, you can address the subject clearly in your cover letter or at interviews.
