According to the department of labor, dental assistants made a median hourly income of $14.53 ($30,222/year) in 2006 and medical billers made a median annual salary of $28,030 in 2006. So about the same. Billing does involve typing a bunch of numbers all day but some people enjoy that more than looking into people's mouths. Its up to you!
If you are looking for medical billing training, here is a great online school that I found: http://www.careerstep.com/coding/?uid=a1403
Best of luck!

Honestly, I have a relative that works in medical billing. She hates her job. She's head of her department and all they do is sit on a computer and type numbers 24/7. If you want to feel that enclosed all day then this is the job for you. Also, whats making you stop at a dental assistant? Why not go all the way and become a dentist. I think you can do it. Anyone can do what they set their mind to. You could even open your own practice after a few years... that's where the real money is. You'll also get to choose your own hours and pay.
