Should I move from CT to FL for a teaching job?
Asked by Jill G
Does anyone know how difficult it is to find an elementary teaching job in Martin or St.Lucie counties? I really want to go because the job market stinks in CT, but I'm not sure if it would be any easier to find a job in FL?

I moved from New Jersey to Florida and it was great. The absence of a state income tax is like getting an immediate raise. But, I had a job with the same salary before I moved. Moving without a job is a *big* gamble. Also, you will probably make less because of the cheaper standard of living here.
The housing market really took a hit in Florida so, if you've been fiscally responsible, and own a house in Connecticut, you could probably getting an equivalent house here much cheaper.

Can you apply for a job there without moving first? If yes, then do that. Otherwise, I would check the job listings in those counties to see if they have any openings.
Also, contact the local teacher's union and ask them what the market is like.
