Should I move from CT to FL for a teaching job?
Asked by Jill G
Does anyone know how difficult it is to find an elementary teaching job in Martin or St.Lucie counties? I really want to go because the job market stinks in CT, but I'm not sure if it would be any easier to find a job in FL?

I moved from New Jersey to Florida and it was great. The absence of a state income tax is like getting an immediate raise. But, I had a job with the same salary before I moved. Moving without a job is a *big* gamble. Also, you will probably make less because of the cheaper standard of living here. The housing market really took a hit in Florida so, if you've been fiscally responsible, and own a house in Connecticut, you could probably getting an equivalent house here much cheaper.

Can you apply for a job there without moving first? If yes, then do that. Otherwise, I would check the job listings in those counties to see if they have any openings. Also, contact the local teacher's union and ask them what the market is like. Good Luck
