Can l get a job as an entry level account clerk w/ no accounting background.?
Asked by Smake l
My friend told me that w/ no accounting background, if l take a community college course on Quickbooks, l can get an entry level accounting clerk job very easily. That sounds too good to be true. I've never taken a accounting class in my life, and my job currently is teacher's aide. I can navigate the computer,( words, basic power point)but l don't considered my self very savvy.

Unfortunately, she's probably right. I come across a lot of people calling themselves "bookkeepers" who can't tell me what a debit or credit is. But because they "know" Quickbooks, they think they are qualified to be a bookkeeper. I admire your skepticism; you didn't just run out there and screw up someone's books. Take a few accounting courses first. If the class does it all on the computer, I recommend doing it manually as well; you'll get a better understanding for the principals involved, Then learn the accounting software.
