I'm getting my Bachelors in Social Work, will that be a good degree to become a physicians assistant?
Asked by Cam
I'd consider switching to another major, but I'm already committed to the Social Work program, and switching majors would add a significant amount of time to my undergrad degree.

Why become a PA which is basically just a technical job, when you have opened your avenue to become a case manager in a hospital setting. As a case manager, you don't have to deal with the immediately medical care. You deal with assisting the patient with a care support system after they leave the hospital or within the hospital: such as connecting them to psychologists, therapists, home health care, transportation, etc. A social worker has much more status than a PA.

A:
Anaise has ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA WHAT A PA IS. PA's are Highly Trained Medical Professionals. If you want to talk about status, Social Workers are lucky to make 50k a year while PA's make on AVERAGE 86k a year with many making more than 100k a year. Yes you can major in whatever you want and apply to PA programs. Just make sure you have taken the pre-req's for the programs you want to apply to. Check out www.physicianassistantforum.com
