What are some examples of part time jobs as a student?
Asked by rooibox
Is it easy to find work by going into small shops/dairies and asking about vacancies, or going to a supermarket to ask etc? Do you start off right away in those sorts of jobs with the full minimum wage or is there a reduced wage for new entrants/trainers?

A:
Best Answer:
depending on the job and your age if you are under a certain age the minimum waged is lower, as a water(ess) you make less due to tips plus it all depends on the company policies, if their wages are above minimum for a fully trained staff the wage for a trainee will be lower.

I worked in Cafe's like Cafe Nero, Starbucks and just local restaurants. If your under 18 youll get a reduced minumum wage, but if your over 21 you will get the money in full from as soon as you begin. Try websites like Gumtree.co.uk where you can find anything from babysitting to dog walking in you local area. Hope this helps

I haven't had much trouble finding jobs. You could do retail or you could do restaurant work, which includes being a host, a dishwasher, a busser, or a waiter (or even a bartender if you want to get licensed). All you have to do is walk in and ask for an application. I never ask if they are hiring because if they say they aren't then it's odd to ask for an application, and if you just ask for an application and turn it in even if they aren't hiring there is still a chance they may hire you (which is what happened for my first job as a hostess). As far as I know you CANNOT, by law, be paid less than the full minimum wage UNLESS you are in a job that is considered a "tips" job like being a waiter, where you make up the difference in the tips you gain.
