I am thinking about becoming a Dental Hygienist, but I am a guy?
Asked by Tom
Is it ok for a male to become a dental hygienist? Seems like its a high paid profession and I only need 2 years of college. Problem is, I hear 97 percent of dental hygienists are female. Will I face discrimination if I try to get into this field?

The hygenist who cleans my teeth is a guy, much younger than me, and I feel comfortable with him. So it should be a non issue. There are more and more male nurses and they deal with alot more intimate issues than teeth so your gender should be a non issue.

I don't think that should be a consideration in their hiring practice. At least I hope not. If they do you have a case for gender discrimination. Anymore, if there is a job your willing to do and it pays good, then don't let something like that stop you. Let's face it, manufacturing jobs are a thing of the past, which most men were in, and now we have to do whatever we can now, right?
