Career Questions and Answers

What academic qualifications do I need in order for me to become a Regional or Sales manager?
Asked by Elliott
just out of interest what academic qualifications i.e. GCSEs, A-Levels, Btecs, Degrees, etc. would I need to enable me to become a regional sales manager in a major retail outlet, or maybe just a sales manager. Really interested please let me know, because this is the career path I would love to go down. I love people, loving talking, however I'm still in my final year of gcse study and was thinking to go through with sales when I leave college??

You don't need a degree you need a long time of work experience, it would depend it what areas you wanted to be a regional/sales manager in? I previous have been a sales manager in a call centre and 20years work experience was the only qualification I needed. The area I now work in as a marketing executive did not need qualifications and my regional managers have not school qualifications only 30 years work experience in specific areas and on the job training, to get these jobs you start at the bottom of a retail store, Tesco, and work your way up over the years?- I suggest you find a better career choice where you can get a good education and university degrees and forget about retail and sales work. If I could go back in time it wouldn't be my choice, I do have qualifications in finance and sales which I gathered over the years.

Unlike the answer-mate before I would recommend you to follow your interest. 2500 years ago Confucius said: "Find a job you love and you will not work a single day in your life." You do not need academic qualifications to become regional sales manager. You need results. As a manager you have responsibility for planning, organizing, directing, measuring and controlling the work of a group of individuals towards a preset goal. Over deliver results and you will be promoted. Proper education will boost your career.
