Best excuses to quit a job?
Asked by britany
I've been working as a child care provider for this family for about 9 months now and I caught the swine flu over the weekend so I had to take off Tuesday and today. On Monday after I told them that I needed time off because I was sick they got mad and I noticed they placed an ad up looking for a new child care provider. I think this is ridiculous since this is the first time i've taken off and I really don't want to risk getting the children sick or be stuck there while i'm sick. I think this whole situation is stupid. They keep cutting my pay and making me stay longer and do extra things. They're obviously planning on getting rid of me because I needed the time off so I figure maybe I'll think of some excuse as to why I can't work for them anymore. Any ideas on reasons to quit? They are also moving further away so maybe that might be a good excuse... Any ideas?

You don't need to provide a reason to quit. If you wish, give them a two week notice which will give them time to find a replacement. Otherwise, just say that you feel the time has come to move on and you will no longer be available as of whatever date you wish. Just be sure that you have been compensated for your work up to that time since they very well may decide not give you a final check once you tell them you are leaving.

if they fire you, you can sue for wrongful dismissal. They can't fire you if you get swine flu!!! If they do, take it to the media. You can really make them regret it!
The best excuse to quit though, is having a better job offer somewhere else

If you want to use them as a reference in the future, then whatever excuse is the least confrontational will work. Your idea of moving further away is a good one.

Tell them you've already had swine flu and you're afraid leprosy is next.
