After passing a State bar exam you are able to practice law in that specific state. However much of what is covered in the exam is the common law that has been developed and established in a particular state. People/companies will sue in a specific state so as to obtain some perceived some benefits established in common law in the specific state. You will be able to practice law in either state, but every case will be in one or the other state, either Plaintiff v Defendant under Illinois law or Indiana law.
