The Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) is a nonprofit medical research organization that was established in 1953 by the aviator-industrialist. HHMI headquartered in Chevy Chase, Maryland, is one of the largest philanthropies in the world. HHMI is dedicated to discovering and disseminating new knowledge in the basic life sciences.
