The York News-Times, the third-oldest newspaper in York, Neb., history, was started on August 13, 1880, with its then-title the York Times.
In March 1881, the newspaper changed ownership and was run as a Republican paper for many years. For a period of time it was consolidated into another Nebraska newspaper, aptly titled the Republican, beginning in 1912. The Republican eventually split off into two separate newspapers, with the Daily Times becoming its own entity before being sold to the York Blank Book Company and York News Company. After more changes in ownership and consolidations, the York News-Times, as it is known today, was born. The York News-Times is the only one of the numerous early York, Neb. newspapers that has been maintained for many years on a daily basis. It has also, at times, been published as a weekly and bi-weekly newspaper. In 1995, the York News-Times became part of Morris Communications Co. with the purchase of the Stauffer Communications chain.* * Information and some copy obtained by the York County History, by T.E. Sedgewick, originally published in 1867 and later re-edited for a 1921 release.
