Samsung Electronics America is the North American subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Corporation of Seoul, Korea. The North American operations of Samsung Electronics includes several affiliated companies under the leadership of President DJ Oh. These companies include Samsung Telecommunications America (STA), Samsung Information Systems America (SISA), Samsung Semiconductors America (SSA), Samsung Electronics Canada (SECA), Samsung Electronics Mexico (SEM) and Samsung Electronics America (SEA).
Samsung first began as a small agricultural commodities trading company in 1938 in Taegu, Korea. Today it has 40 independent affiliated companies and subsidiaries, as well as seven not-for-profit organizations. Samsung employs 170,000 personnel in 65 countries worldwide. Samsung Electronics was founded in 1969 and sold its first product (a black and white television) in 1971. Currently Samsung Electronics is organized into four main areas of operation: Digital Media, Semiconductors, Information & Communications and Core Component Businesses that produce the world's most innovative 21st century digital components recognized as the best in the world.
