The NYC Teaching Fellows program recruits and prepares talented, dedicated individuals to become teachers who raise student achievement in the New York City classrooms that need them most. Fellows typically have no prior teaching experience but are committed to ensuring that all students in New York City receive an excellent education – and they are making a dramatic difference. The program is designed so that Fellows are fast-tracked into full-time teaching positions in New York City public schools. Within a few months of becoming a Fellow, you can be making a real impact. Today, the NYC Teaching Fellows program is the largest alternative certification program in the country and among the most selective. Approximately 9,000 Fellows are currently teaching in New York City schools, making up 11% of the overall population of teachers. Further, Fellows are concentrating their efforts where they are needed most. 86% of Fellows teach high-need subject areas and 84% of Fellows teach in schools that are eligible to receive funding due to a high population of students from low-income families (Title I).
