Chartered in June, 1972, Central Virginia Bank opened for business on September 17, 1973 at Flat Rock in Powhatan County, Virginia. The bank opened for business with assets just under $1 million and capitalization of $600,000. Today we have approximately $485 million in assets and seven branch locations, serving the counties of Powhatan, Chesterfield, Cumberland and Henrico. Central Virginia Bank operates as a state chartered member of the Federal Reserve System and its deposits are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The bank is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Central Virginia Bankshares, Inc., a one bank holding company. Common shares of Central Virginia Bankshares, Inc. have traded on the NASDAQ Stock Market (sm) since May 1995 under the symbol "CVBK".
