Our History

Austin Heart began in 1994 with the merger of Austin Cardiovascular Consultants and Austin Heart Asso-ciates.  James Goolsby, MD was Austin Heart's first president, and George Rodgers, MD was the first medical director.  The group was founded on several key business principles.

• Sub-specialization of physicians and staff in facilities focused on cardiovascular disease.
• Provide services within local communities - bring cardiovascular care "close to home".
• Provide a full spectrum of services from preven-tion, to diagnostics and treatment, within the group practice seting to ensure quality and patient convenience.

Austin Heart desires to be an innovative leader both clinically and administratively.  We approach all rela-tionships with integrity and strive to deliver superior service to patients, referring physicians, business colleagues, and the community.  Our physicians provide care to their patients as they would for their own families.  We know that teamwork is a core attribute of a successful group.

Since our inception in 1994, the practice has grown to over 40 physicians. Over time we have expanded clinical departments, added new services, added branch and outreach office locations, and added phy-sicians to meet the needs of cardiovascular patients in Central Texas.  Today Austin heart has 13 full-time office locations and 13 outreach clinics, providing care from Killeen to San Marcos, and Fredericksburg to La Grange.

In 1998 Austin Heart physicians founded the Heart Hospital of Austin, the only cardiovascular specialty hospital in Central Texas.  Today the Heart Hospital has been rated as the #1 overall cardiac program in the State of Texas in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
