Assurant Solutions- Preneed Division provides preneed insurance products that help individuals arrange and fund their own funeral plans.

Assurant Solution’s Preneed Division has been in business for more than 60 years. United Family Life Insurance Company was founded in 1940, in Atlanta, GA. In 1959, Assurant Solution’s Preneed Division in Rapid City, S.D. began writing new insurance business as Prairie States Life Insurance Company. In the early 1990s, the company made a strategic move to focus on preneed insurance. In 1996, Prairie States Life changed its name to American Memorial Life Insurance Company to emphasize its national customer base. In 1998 American Memorial Life was acquired by Service Corporation International, Inc. (SCI). Two years later SCI sold American Memorial Life to Fortis, now known as Assurant.

Preneed Division is comprised of Union Security Insurance Company in Atlanta and American Memorial Life Insurance Company in Rapid City.

In 2005, Assurant implemented a strategic business restructure and aligned the funeral pre-funding and preplanning business segment, Assurant Preneed, under its Assurant Solutions business segment.
