It’s our mission, it’s your calling.
To you, it’s more than a career. It’s a calling. You made a decision to be part of the healing process, to make a difference in people’s lives. At Mercy Health Partners, we believe that healthcare is more than medicine; it’s compassionate care from our experienced team of healthcare professionals.
Located in East Tennessee, Mercy Health Partners encompasses nine hospitals and numerous healthcare service facilities.
- Nursing and administrative staff actively trouble shoot and problem solve issues as they arise. RNs are encouraged to voice their opinions and suggestions at all times.
- Mercy Health Partners enjoys a family-like atmosphere, where deep and lasting relationships are developed at work.
- Most patients have private rooms, supporting close relationships with the nursing staff and privacy for the patient's family.
- Spirituality is promoted at Mercy.
Balance
Career Choices
- Mercy promotes from within, providing you with opportunities to grow. We offer ongoing training so you can keep learning and stay current on new equipment and techniques.
- Our extended new grad-mentoring (or preceptor) program averages 8-10 weeks, longer than many other hospitals.
- Tuition reimbursement is offered for advanced degrees. We'll provide flexible scheduling for you to continue your education.
- You can grow and learn at Mercy, making this your career choice for life!
Personal Life
- A sense of balance between you and your work is very important. At Mercy, we understand how important that balance is to you. So, we offer flexible scheduling with a variety of shifts.
- Off shift hours, along with pay incentives allow you to choose your work schedule. Evening or night shifts are particularly well suited for those nurses with nighttime biorhythms.
- We offer a two-day weekend alternative that frees your weekdays. For associates with small children or nurses returning to school, our 12-hour weekend shifts pay benefits and may suit your personal needs.
- The teamwork developed on your unit can easily extend to personal friendships.
Critical Attributes
We at Mercy feel that nursing can be a very fulfilling career; particularly when you, as a nurse, are able to make a real difference in a patient's life. It intrinsically affects your own life.
- You listen to patients and understand what they need.
- We can count on you, because you're willing to do what it takes to care for a patient or support the nursing team.
- Excellent nursing also demands good organization and communication skills. Being a critical thinker and problem solver are other key elements.
- Some of our best nurses become mentors; showing new grads and the newer nurses how to become caring, effective nurses too.
- You are alert and responsive to the needs of your patients, as well as the staff and nursing team.
- Nursing requires paying attention to many details & prioritizing multiple tasks. You are able to manage this in a fast paced, ever-changing environment.
- Having strong written and verbal skills are part of your communication effectiveness.
Benefits
In addition to typical Medical, Life Insurance and Disability coverage, Mercy Health Partners offers their associates the following benefits:
Rewards
- We encourage and support your spirituality in the workplace. Daily chapel service is held, as are spiritual retreats and support programs for many of our associates.
- At Mercy, your voice will be heard. We encourage open dialog and responsiveness to issues as they arise.
- Learning and growing will be an ongoing aspect of your career at Mercy Health Partners. We'll make sure that you get the training you need to stay current with the latest techniques and equipment. And, if you choose to move into management or further your education, we'll provide you with the support you need.
Child Development Center
Mercy associates and affiliates have the benefit to enroll their children, ages six weeks to five years, in the St. Mary's Child Development Center. The center is a three-star program and licensed by the State of Tennessee. The preschool follows the Creative Curriculum and also provides enrichment classes such as music, dance and gymnastics. The children are provided lunch and two snacks. Located on the campus of St. Mary's Medical Center, the center has an open door policy and encourages parents to visit their children in the classroom. Because of the low St. Mary's associate turnover, the children really get to know and trust their caregivers. Hours of operation are 6:15 a.m.-6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
To find out how to get on the waiting list, tuition details and more information, St. Mary's associates and affiliates can contact Trisha Brady, St. Mary's Child Development Center director, at (865) 545-8240 or tbrady@mercy.com.
Highlighted Career

Mark Fultz, RN Cardio/Pulmonary Unit St. Mary's Medical Center |
"I chose St. Mary's seven years ago and it has been a great experience. I started my medical career in 1982 and have experience in ER, surgery, nursing home and home healthcare. I've worked on CPU for more than a year and it is the best experience I've ever had. The staff is very friendly and value my opinion. I handle a wide variety of situations and enjoy coming to work every day. Mercy has provided me with opportunities to reach personal goals, skill development and career growth.
"If you are a newly graduated nurse, CPU has a reputation for mentoring. If you are an experienced nurse who appreciates strong supportive team efforts, you will not be disappointed. I have found a home on CPU and so can you."
If you have any questions about CPU, or would like a tour of the unit, call Clinical Leader Larry Harness at (865) 545-7562.
