Sterling Vision & Mission Statements
Sterling Life Insurance Company was established in 1958. In 1999, Sterling contracted with its sister company, Olympic Health Management Systems, Inc., to develop products for the rapidly expanding market comprised primarily of older Americans. Sterling's national licensing and Olympic's expertise in designing products and services exclusively related to the Medicare population have blended to form a team that is stable, innovative, and responsive to the needs of clients and beneficiaries.
Today, Sterling offers a variety of products and services to fit the needs of Medicare beneficiaries. The combined staffing of the two sister companies has grown to over 1,000 talented and diversified people working together to achieve a number of industry "firsts."
Sterling was the first to successfully contract with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for a newly-authorized product, Private Fee For Service (PFFS). By incorporating this plan into its already established Standard Medicare and Medicare Select insurance plans, Sterling became the first to offer this mix of products in one platform. It is believed Sterling was also the first to allow enrollees/policyholders to move between health plans as their needs change without additional underwriting—an extraordinary feature we call Choice and Mobility.
Today, Sterling is licensed in 50 states, plus Washington, D.C., and has sales offices spanning the nation. The product line continues to grow and now includes Life products and Prescription Drug plans. The products and services will not stop here. Our Business Development team is constantly looking for new programs that will benefit the Medicare market.
Sterling is rated "A-" (Excellent) by A.M. Best.* Sterling is part of the Munich Re Group. Munich Re Group has earned an A+ (Superior) rating from A.M. Best, and is one of the world's largest reinsurers, dedicated to turning risk into value. With the Medicare market booming, Sterling's future looks very bright. Sterling has the right products, the right partners, the right audience, and the right people. | | | |
Sterling Life Insurance Company, an A.M. Best “A-” (Excellent) rated insurer, offers a portfolio of plans to cover virtually all the health, life and prescription drug insurance needs of Medicare beneficiaries and other mature adults. The Sterling family of plans offers maximum flexibility to enrollees by enabling them to move from one health plan to another (as federal law allows), as their needs, circumstances, or financial situations change. We call this very important feature Choice and Mobility.
Sterling Premier®, a Standard Medicare Supplement Insurance plan, is designed for people who know they need additional coverage and have the desire to maintain control over their healthcare decisions. Sterling Premier® has no restrictions on physicians or hospitals.
One of Sterling’s most popular products, Sterling Medicare Select, is designed to provide the additional coverage beneficiaries need, with the features they want most, at a price they can afford. To date, Sterling has contracted with over 360 network hospitals and surgery centers around the country.
Sterling Option I® is a Medicare Advantage Private Fee For Service (PFFS) plan featuring the freedom to choose any doctor or hospital who accepts the plan's terms and conditions, and to see specialists without a referral. Enrollees receive full coverage when traveling within the United States and for emergency or urgently needed services outside the country. As added benefits, this plan also offers programs to improve or maintain good health such as: disease and care management, a 24-hour Nurse Advice Line, Sterling Forever Fit Wellness Program, preventive dental, vision, hearing, and physical exam benefits. Though some cost-sharing applies, plan premiums are generally lower than Standard and Select Medicare Supplement Insurance.
Sterling Option IISM is a Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug (MAPD) Private Fee For Service (PFFS) plan that offers enhanced Medicare benefits similar to Sterling Option I® plus prescription drug coverage to make it even more attractive while maintaining a low price. This plan is a cost effective solution for those needing basic health and drug coverage.
Our newest plans, Sterling Option IIISM and Sterling Option IVSM, are enhanced plans with out-of-pocket limits to protect enrollees from catastrophic medical costs. Both plans also offer an allowance for non-Medicare covered benefits. Enrollees can use the allowance as they wish for covered routine dental, hearing and vision services. Sterling Option IVSM includes Medicare prescription drug coverage.
Sterling Partners® - Montana is another innovative plan from Sterling. This Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug (MAPD) Private Fee For Service (PFFS) plan offers enhanced benefits including routine dental, hearing, and vision, and then adds the very important and much needed Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage. Sterling Partners® - Montana is available in selected counties in Montana, and is accepted at contracted network hospitals.
Stand-alone Medicare Prescription Drug Plans Sterling RxSM is a standard prescription drug plan offering under Medicare Part D. This Medicare-approved PDP offers a rich, four-tier formulary and is accepted at more than 50,000 pharmacies nationwide.
Sterling Rx PlusSM is a real leader in the market, providing all of the benefits of our standard Rx plan plus no co-pay, no deductible and coverage through the "coverage gap" when generic drugs are used. This option takes away a large portion of the out-of-pocket expenses that our customers experience and is a major selling point against our competition.
Complementary Products Sterling Life Insurance Company offers three types of life insurance plans: Whole Life, Limited Benefit Whole Life and Child Life Protector which provide addtional benefits to our enrollees as well as increased income opportunities for our Sales Agents.
Sterling Long Term Care helps pay for long term care provided at home, adult day health centers, assisted living facilities, hospice and provide respite care in addition to nursing home care because only a small percentage of Americans needing long term care live in a nursing home.
In partnership with our parent company, Combined Insurance Company of America, Sterling offers supplemental health insurance plans including Critical Condition, Cancer and Senior Cancer. These plans provide policyholders with the means to help pay some of the expenses associated with an illness. They provide benefits to policyholders who are totally disabled by cancer or another covered illness.
Sterling Discount RxSM is a discount pharmacy program. This program is open to Sterling health plan enrollees/policyholders and is accepted at more than 50,000 pharmacies nationwide. There are three tiers of discounts for prescriptions and two plan options - individuals or families, each with an affordable monthly membership fee. |
