The City of Decatur fills most vacant regular and hourly positions through advertising. Applications are not routinely kept on file. The Sunday edition of the Decatur Herald and Review is the newspaper most frequently used for advertising. Vacancies are also advertised in other regional newspapers, trade journals, through local community agencies, the Illinois Department of Employment Security, and the Internet.
The City offers positions in these categories:
- Salaried (a full-time position);
- Regular part-time (a part-time position for a minimum of 20 hours but not more than 39 hours a week, usually in the Decatur Public Library);
- Hourly (a full-time, or part-time supplemental, position that exists for an indefinite period of time);
- Special (a full-time or part-time position created to staff a project with a fixed duration).
Applications are only accepted when there is an advertised vacancy. However, upon request, your name and adress will be placed in our Human Resources data base and you will be notified when a vacancy occurs in the area of employment in which you have expressed an interest.
