About Abilene State Supported Living Center

• Opened in 1957.
• The 176-acre living center is home to approximately 500 people.
• Approximately 1,400 people work at the living center.

• The living center serves 18 counties: Brown, Callahan, Coleman, Comanche, Eastland, Erath, Hood, Johnson, Jones, McCulloch, Mills, Palo Pinto, Parker, San Saba, Shackelford, Somervell, Stephens and Taylor. All applicants must pass a drug screen and criminal history background check; some positions may require licensing and/or certification.  After September 1, 2009, all applicants will also be finger printed.

State Living Centers provide 24-hour residential services, comprehensive behavioral treatment services and health care services including physician services, psychiatric services, nursing services and dental services.  Other services include skills training, occupational, physical and speech therapies, vocational programs, and other services to maintain connections between residents and their families/natural support systems.  When you work at a State Living Center, you gain unique experience, and job satisfaction in an environment that is therapeutic, dignified and safe for individuals with developmental disabilities.
