John Morrell & Co. was founded in England in 1827, and is considered to be the oldest continuously operating meat manufacturer in the U.S. In 2002 the company celebrated its 175th anniversary.
John Morrell & Co. is a wholly owned and independently managed subsidiary of NYSE traded Smithfield Foods, Inc., (SFD) the largest vertically integrated producer of processed meat and fresh pork in the United States. With annual sales of approximately $2 billion, John Morrell produces over 3,000 products, offering a wide variety of fresh pork and processed meats. John Morrell's fresh pork products are marketed across the U.S. and internationally. Processed meats include hams, hot dogs, bacon, lunchmeats and smoked sausage. The Company employs a total of over 6,700 people across the U.S.
John Morrell's corporate headquarters, located in Cincinnati, Ohio, serves as base for the Company's executive, sales, marketing, finance, and information services departments. The corporate office is home for John Morrell's technical staff, including our research and development center; a complete USDA certified pilot plant, and quality control laboratory. John Morrell also has its own in-house graphic arts department.
Constant technological updates and plant modernizations keep all of the company's processing facilities highly efficient and competitive. John Morrell has eight USDA-approved meat facilities, each specializing in specific product areas. John Morrell's largest facility, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, produces fresh pork as well as a full line of processed meats. The Company's seven other processing operations include: the fresh pork operation in Sioux City, Iowa; specialized smoked meats in Great Bend, Kansas; premium corned beef and foodservice bacon in San Jose, California; Curly's Foods, specializing in fully cooked BBQ meats in Sioux City, Iowa; Cumberland Gap ham and smoked sausage facility in Middlesboro, Kentucky; and the sausage specialties processing plant in Springdale, Ohio.
The Company's portfolio of brands include John Morrell, Dinner Bell, E-Z-Cut, Farmers Hickory Brand, Hunter, Kretschmar, Peyton's, Rath Black Hawk, Rodeo, Shenson, and Tobin's First Prize. Each regional brand enjoys high brand recognition and loyalty among consumers. John Morrell & Co. is one of the nation's largest producers of private label processed meat products. Morrell supplies a majority of the Country's largest retail chains and foodservice distributors with a wide variety of fresh and processed private label items.
John Morrell Foodservice offers a complete line of top-quality fresh and processed meat products. Our wide array of products includes fresh pork, hardwood smoked bacon, boneless and bone-in hams, cooked beef items and sausage specialities.

John Morrell also plays an active role in the arts and provides support to both the Cincinnati Black Theatre and ArtWorks, the arts education group sponsoring the Big Pig Gig and Bats Incredible! public art projects.
